MORE at Venice Biennale 2016 — Close
MORE will be present at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2016, presenting the urban extension plan for Accra, Ghana. It is a collaborative urban planning project with Dutch firms .FABRIC, MLA+, MIXST and OKRA, initiated by UN Habitat Urban Labs and supported by the Dutch Creative Industries Fund NL. To accommodate the future growth and urbanization of Greater Accra, UN Habitat and 5 Dutch design teams are working on the planned city extension of Ningo Prampram. This urban extension is motivated by three key drivers: the need to prepare the region against flooding, the rapid urban growth and the subsequent explosive unplanned urban sprawl in Ningo Prampram and the permanent necessity to expand the (affordable) housing quantity in Accra. The plan will integrate the five UN Habitat planning principles (to be compact, integrated, connected, socially inclusive and resilient to climate change) in its core concept, thus creating a comprehensive and sustainable city.
