Pool Hotel — Close
Hotel, Conference Center, Spa, Pools 14,000 sqm Schematic Design, 2016 China’s domestic tourism is growing at a staggering 10% per year. Though currently mainly focussing on big cities and famous historic destinations, more and more tourists are interested in rural China. Dachangping is a mountainous area, 4 hours drive from Shanghai. It is a tourist destination with hinterland of 90 million (!) visitors. Developing sustainable proposals for tourism is hence critical. The pool hotel is a project which is part of a larger resort design. The masterplan for the resort organizes the various hotels and villas within its borders into ‘villages’ – a strategy to maximize density where necessary, and minimize footprint. The ‘pool village’ is a collection of 8 courtyards with a large diversity of programs: gardens, conference centre, meeting rooms, gardens…The various courtyards are connected through a transparant spine which contains lobby, bars and restaurants. Below the spine, we find all collective functions: pools, spa, meeting rooms. Above the spine, the hotelrooms ‘float’ over the pools.
