Onze Hoeve creates a new type of neighbourhood where an urban lifestyle and a lush landscape are unified. Rooted in the history of Heemskerk’s castles, gardens and agricultural communities, the plan reinterprets the qualities of the past into a sustainable and inclusive living environment for the future.
Located around the railway station, Onze Hoeve consists of four residential courtyards and a lively station area. Together, they create a new connection between the surrounding neighbourhoods and the landscape. The plan provides 300 homes for different generations and incomes, combined with approximately 1,700 m² of commercial and social facilities around the station square.
Each courtyard is composed of a couple of residential buildings embedded in a continuous green landscape. Shared gardens create intimate communities where residents can meet, while a network of public paths connects the new neighbourhood with its surroundings. The station area forms a more urban heart, with amenities and public life at the centre.
Sustainability is embedded in the design from the start. The neighbourhood is nature-inclusive, enhancing biodiversity and wellbeing. Buildings are designed with biobased structures, recycled materials and natural finishes, creating a circular and healthy living environment.
Onze Hoeve demonstrates how densification can strengthen the relationship the landscape and the city. By combining community, ecology and architecture, the project creates a contemporary interpretation of Heemskerk’s heritage: a place where people live together, surrounded by nature.
