Concordia is a more than hundred-year-old tavern in the heart of a village. For generations, it was a place for the local community to gather, hosting celebrations, theatre performances, weddings and even kolf, a traditional local sport. After the pub closed, the question arose: how can the building remain a place for the community while responding to the village’s changing housing needs?
The project transforms the former tavern into seven compact studios and a collective space. Behind it, eight new apartments for seniors are arranged around a shared central garden. The garden occupies the exact location of the former theatre hall, preserving its role as a place for encounter, albeit in a new form.
Rather than replacing the existing building, the project builds upon its history and gives it a new purpose. The result is a small-scale residential development that combines different generations and ways of living in the heart of the village.
Concordia brings together old and new in both architecture and community: younger residents inhabit the historic building, while seniors live in the new one. The former tavern continues to serve as a place where people meet, live and connect.
